AN INNOVATIVE APPROACH
Scooping the pool at the recent HIA Awards for 2009/10, this Individual Design & Construction kitchen was recognised with three prestigious awards – Kitchen Project of the Year, Renovated Kitchen over $30,000 and Best Townhouse/Apartment Project. The owner of this kitchen was after something different and unique with a strong sense of symmetry and a darker feel to the overall finish. Through working with this brief, Clinton Buckwell of Individual Design and Construction was able to create a sleek kitchen that remains cohesive with the rest of this inner city apartment. Situated in this third floor apartment on a busy CBD corner that’s right in the heart of the city, the kitchen features floor to ceiling windows to the east and south that give a view to some of Melbourne’s most iconic buildings and architecture. Such an impressive view required an equally impressive kitchen and Individual Design & Construction delivered with this contemporary design that features reflective materials such as stainless steel and mirror along with all the modern conveniences. Stand out elements include an island bench, with two symmetrically positioned wine racks underneath, and the striking wood grain cabinetry that complements the rich brown and red colouring of the apartment’s floor and had to be painstakingly applied to ensure accurate repetition of the intricate pattern.
