Today’s fast-paced lifestyle requires a home that is efficient and practical while also providing a haven and respite from the outside world. Oakwood Kitchens’ designer has been living in Europe for a number of years designing high-end German kitchens, and Oakwood can design and build inspired cabinet furniture for any application you can imagine.

Oakwood takes a basic concept from the client and looks at all the details of functionality, ergonomics and aesthetics to turn the concept into a work of art. The client originally had the idea of a U-shaped kitchen and after going through the company’s standard consulting process, Oakwood and the client came to the conclusion that the island was the better option.

The island benchtop was initially envisaged as a plain, high gloss red countertop to add ‘wow’ factor. The client and Oakwood worked together to consult a local artist and the idea led to the creation of this unique design. The glass top has been baked for strength and to fuse the colours and is protected with aluminium edge profile – a work of art in itself.

The kitchen doors are high gloss Perspex with a slimline aluminium edge. The floating design of the overhead units is highlighted by the use of full gloss black doors. Pearlescent antique provides the neutral background. Oakwood used a handle-free design to accentuate the free, clear horizontal lines.

Hidden internal drawers from Hettich provide functionality without compromising the design.

All base panels, including those on the island unit, were made from Perspex with aluminium profile edges in Oakwood’s factory. Other aluminium details appear in the channel handle, the toe space and the surrounds of the LED lights under the overheads.

The designers at Oakwood believe kitchen designs can include the full living space. Designs can be fused to allow clients to enjoy daily living, working, talking, entertaining and relaxing.
