Schweigen began with Australian ingenuity. The unique concept was then married to the craftsmanship of those independent European specialists to produce the most remarkable range of silent exhaust canopies in the world. While some may make ridiculous claims, the simple fact is that all canopies and rangehoods will make some noise. And the greater the airflow, the greater the noise level. So Schweigen’s Australian designer’s had a simple challenge – eliminate as much sound as possible, but still deliver all the suction that modern cooking demands. They began by selecting a motorised fan from Germany that is acknowledged as the quietest, most efficient and most powerful domestic extraction fan/motor assembly available. However, even the quietest motors and fans generate some noise. So placing them close to someone’s ear while they’re cooking just didn’t seem very logical. Their solution was quite revolutionary and yet so obvious. Instead of mounting the fan/motor ssembly inside the metal canopy, they moved it as far away from kitchen as possible. Schweigen developed a unique housing that allows both the fan and motor to be attached to the roof at the other end of a long length of acoustic duct. This housing sits quietly on the roof silently venting all those cooking vapours into the outside air.
