MODERN TRANQUILLITYTHE MASTERS OF INNOVATIONThis bathroom is a creation of true tranquillity. Part of the master bedroom, the major feature is the open shower and bath space surrounded by just a few clear glass partitions. The result is a look of harmonious unity and a resounding air of Zen. Designed by Justin Van Nierop of Urban Edge Ceramics, the stunning 4m2 bathroom features a unique waterwall facing the bath. Challenging at first, the main concern to consider was how to feed the waterwall with no visible hoses. The end result is an eye-catching display that exhibits the proficiency encapsulated by Urban Edge Ceramics. On the other side of the waterwall is the owner’s open wardrobe and not far off, the bed. The whole idea of the bathroom is to be open and to incorporate it into the bedroom to form one single space. This design is spectacular because it shatters preconceived ideas of the bathroom being a separate space, with the shower and bath spaces usually enclosed by walls. Yet here, Urban Edge Ceramics created a wide open space to accommodate for easy living and modern design. The bath is a standout feature of the space. Custom built by Urban Edge Ceramics, it is made of marble dust in anthracite. Slabs of stone to match the bath were employed throughout the bathroom for an uninterrupted look. To achieve this look of harmony, consistency of materials such as the tiles, the stone bath, a vanity and bronzed glass mirrors were used repeatedly throughout not only the bathroom, but the whole house. The floor is tiled in stunning black Japanese glazed Italian porcelain. While the walls are also porcelain, they are unglazed bush hammered putty tiles. Other little details such as the customised bronze mirror with acid etch stylised bamboo streamed down one side from top to bottom, make this space the fantastic bathroom that it is. Large pebble type stones were employed throughout the bathroom, also adding to the Japanese feel of the place. A holistic approach was adopted through the rest of the home to create an open harmony. Urban Edge Ceramics specialise in all types of bathrooms, from domestic to commercial, and work Australia wide. They were awarded Australia’s Best Bathrooms four times and were awarded bronze at the Melbourne International Flower and Garden Show for landscape design.
